When one door closes another opens, but you keep looking at the closed door for so long...
Yep, this happened to me yesterday. I had to get into a tram and well what might you know. It was pretty full. I was trying to request a lady to move the pram a bit so I could move in so that the doors would close. Little did I notice that the door in the front was open. I stepped out to see this door close. And by the time I could get to the other door, it had closed too - ended up walking 3 stops!
So much for the meaning of that saying eh!
